10 Questions about the Adult Learning Needs Assessment (ALNA).
1-What is the Adult Learning Needs Assessment?
The Adult Learning Needs Assessment (ALNA) is a consultation to help us better understand community needs in terms of adult education, training, and employment.
The ALNA is being carried out by Sabtuan Adult Education Services (SAES) and Apatisiiwin Skills Development (ASD; formerly CHRD), a department of the Cree Nation Government.
- SAES will conduct a thorough assessment of community needs by consulting with various education partners and community members.
- ASD will conduct the Community Employment Needs Assessment (CENA) and interview employers.
The information collected from the ALNA will help SAES and ASD develop and enhance adult education programs, understand the employment landscape, and contribute to capacity building across Eeyou Istchee.
2-Where is the consultation taking place?
Each of the communities across the Cree Nation will be consulted in the ALNA. Each community will be consulted individually using a phased approach.
3-Why are you taking this “community-first” approach?
A “community-first” approach was developed for the ALNA because we know that each community has its own unique realities. Consulting with each community individually will allow us to create a plan that responds to local and regional needs.
Both SAES and ASD believe that it is important for community members to have a say in the programs, services, and opportunities that are developed for them. This way, programs can be tailored to their true needs and we can better support capacity building in each community.
4-Will the ALNA consider data from past assessments?
We appreciate the work many communities have already done to gather information on adult education, training, and employment needs in the past. In the spirit of continuous improvement, SAES and ASD will draw from the results of past assessments, both regionally and in the communities, to further this research.
Our approach will make the most of existing data while also seeking to gather new information and ideas.
5-How will the information be collected?
Data will be collected through a combination of in-person interviews and online surveys.
6-Who can participate?
Regional and local Cree entities, education partners, current and former adult students, community members and employers can all participate in the ALNA.
7-Why is my participation important?
For the ALNA to be successful, it must reflect the diverse perspectives of different community members, entities, and employers. Your participation is a very important part of achieving this goal.
Are you part of a local or regional entity?
Share your vision for a strong and vibrant Cree Nation to help shape adult education.
Are you a community member?
We want to understand your specific experiences, opinions, and ideas regarding adult education to make sure the programs and services SAES offers really meet your needs.
Are you an employer?
Your participation in ASD's Community Employment Needs Assessment (CENA) and ALNA will help us respond to the needs of employers and better connect students with the labour market.
8-What kinds of questions will I be asked?
Community members will be asked a variety of questions. Topics may include educational experiences, input on program offerings, job seeking, and more. Employers will be consulted on their current and future employment needs.
9-Will my survey answers be kept confidential?
We fully respect the confidentiality of each participant and recognize the importance of anonymity. Participants can be assured that their names will not be published in the ALNA reports.
10-How can I take part in the ALNA?
The ALNA wants to hear from as many people as possible.
