The Sabtuan Adult Education Services wishes to acknowledge the work done by the students from the Professional Cooking Program at the Sabtuan Regional Vocational Training Centre in Waswanipi. Congratulations to this group and their professor, Mr. Jocelyn Myre, for preparing a meal inspired by traditional Cree cuisine at Portus 360 restaurant during the Festival Montréal en lumière 2018.

Ore Extraction

A new way to drill

Ore Extraction Spring 2018We are looking for candidates to start this program on May 22 at the SRVTC in Waswanipi. We will train students to safely use equipment to extract rock and ore. They will learn how to place explosive charges in underground mines and how to maintain mining equipment.

Former Chairperson, retired teachers honoured at language forum

Former Cree School Board chairperson and champion of Cree language Luke Macleod has been awarded the Josie Sam-Atkinson Award for use of the Cree Language in the Media. The award is named for former Cree Regional Chief Josie Sam-Atkinson. Macleod was Chairperson from 1995 to 1996.

Nemaska school holds first education forum

Parents, teachers and community leaders came together in the high school gym this week in the name of Cree education. The Education Forum: A Community Dialogue was the first such event in the history of Luke Mettaweskum School.

Preserving Cree language will take broad approach: Abraham Jolly

While Cree language and culture has long been a focus for the Cree School Board, it is becoming increasingly clear that its preservation requires partnership. 

That’s the message delivered by the Director General of the Cree School Board at the Michiminihtaau Chitayimuwininuu Eeyou Istchee Language Engagement Session held at the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute in Oujé-Bougoumou March 13 to 15, 2018.
