Introduction
Built in 1983, École Voyageur Memorial School is located in the middle of the village and has three buildings (high school, elementary school and pre-school). Close to 700 students attend the school (Pre-K to Secondary 5) as well as many adults in Continuing Education.
Following a request by parents, Cree, English and French are offered starting in Pre-K and Kindergarten. When entering Grade 1, children are put in either the English or French Sectors. English and French are then considered and taught as their mother language. Cree becomes the second language and is taught until Grade 6.
The Elementary School has a gymnasium, a library, a computer room, a science lab, a resource room, two teachers’ room and a large well equipped Special Education facility. The high school has two science labs, two computer rooms, one teachers’ room, one support staff room, a double gymnasium, a very modern library, a Home Economics’ room, a dance studio, an art room, a workshop, a conference room and a student lounge.
