The School Commissioner is neither in direct contact with the students, not attached to a school or a specialised manager of the Cree School Board.
Nevertheless, because the Commissioner's job is political in nature, the Commissioner's duties involve all of the above, and is, therefore, an important job.
Functions
The School Commissioner is both administrator and representative of the community. The law grants the Commissioner no individual power: as an administrator, the Commissioner operates within the context of the Council of Commissioners, whose powers are recognised under "The James Bay and Northern Quebec Act, Section 16".
